Tony has also worked with many US stars including Sam Rivers and David Murray; he rekindled his association with Murray as a guest member of the legendary World Saxophone Quartet, including an appearance at the 2006 Israel Festival. Martin Drew/Mornington Lockett Quartet £12/£10
Martin Drew Drums Mornington Lockett Saxophones
Steve Melling Piano Jeremy Brown Bass
One of the key pairings of recent years, this band features two titanic talents of modern jazz, linked by the legacies of Ronnie Scott and Tubby Hayes. One of the great drummers of our time, Martin has performed with Oscar Peterson, Joe Pass, Ella Fitzgerald, Nina Simone, Gil Evans, Freddie Hubbard and the Breckers. On home territory, he has a similarly distinguished record, especially in his years with several Scott bands; he led the original Scott legacy group.
Having played alongside Ronnie in his sextet, Mornington was a natural for this band, with the brilliant Celebrating the Jazz Couriers being the next stage, followed by the New Jazz Couriers. Tonight's top-drawer line-up brings Steve from the Couriers band and Alan Skidmore Quartet, and stalwart bassist Jeremy from the Peter King Quartet.

As the chosen drummer for many epic bands, from Mike Westbrook's most visionary orchestral productions including The Cortege, to Don Weller's magnificent Big Band, Dave is a musician of many gifts. Having been an essential member of several great groups, led by Tim Whitehead, Chris Biscoe, Don Weller, John Critchenson and Art Themen, he has brought together his own collection of star players.
The live gigs are celebration enough, but Dave has also produced a quintet CD, Precious Time on Trio Records (TR575). The pieces featured are all originals, 7 being from Dave and 2 from Don.

Julian Nicholas' Heavy Plant Crossing £12/£10
Julian Nicholas Reeds Chris Batchelor Trumpet
John Parricelli Guitar Oren Marshall Tuba Martin France Drums
Julian's imaginative line-up are all bandleaders themselves, and were all members of the ground-breaking Loose Tubes ensemble.
This band rekindles that freewheeling approach, using original scores plus material by Arthur Blythe, John Scofield and Albert Ayler. Julian has performed with the Brotherhood of Breath and Mark Lockheart's Big Idea, which features John Parricelli's effortless artistry.
John can regularly be heard in quartets with Stan Sulzmann, Andy Sheppard and Chris Laurence, and has received particular acclaim for Ordesa, his trio with Stan and Kenny Wheeler.
Chris picked up rapturous reviews for his appearance in a revamped Nucleus, in which he performed Ian Carr's original parts. Completing an inventive rhythm section are two innovators: Oren is at the forefront in his blending of tuba with electronics and multitracking to extraordinary effect, as featured on his solo CD. Martin's Spin Marvel CD cemented his reputation as a world class percussionist and composer.
