Ivo is becoming one of the most dynamic young bandleaders in the UK; as a multi-instrumentalist and composer, he has a role in several of the most essential groups of the day, from his own variety of line-ups to the already well-established poll-winners such as Phronesis.

Ivo has picked up a few gongs for his participation in Phronesis and Kairos, (q.v. 26th October) with awards coming from MOBO and Jazzwise.

His own bands have many rave reviews for albums such as Caught In The Light of Day, and he now has a new ambitious project on CD. Yatra (released on Edition Records) features an octet, the nucleus of which we have tonight.

On Yatra Ivo performs on accordion, saxophone and piano, joined by several reed players including Tori. She has performed extensively in recent years with many groups including the Creative Jazz Orchestra and with Andy Sheppard, and leads the quartet Compassionate Dictatorship which includes Jasper Høiby and James Maddren, and is preparing its third CD for release early in 2013.

Jim's wealth of talent is now well known well beyond the UK jazz scene, with his explosive vibraphone skills equalled by his piano and drumming chops. He is gigging widely with his Cloudmakers Trio, due to release a live CD joined by US trumpeter Ralph Alessi; there are also recordings due with Marius Neset and the Neon Quartet.

The extraordinary quality continues into the rhythm section, with another bandleader on bass. Tim's own group recently launched his CD New Kid at the Pizza Express, featuring Dave O'Higgins; he is a member of the Ronnie Scott's All Stars, and also gigs with Anita Wardell, Alex Garnett and many others. Dave is another accomplished bandleader, preparing for release a CD with his own sextet; he's performed at many festivals around the UK and in New York and LA. He's also a regular with F-ire collective ensembles such as the Sam Crowe Group, and was a member of the band led by much-missed trumpeter Abram Wilson.

Kairos return to us in the middle of a short UK tour, the culmination of which will be a headline gig in the London Jazz Festival. The band have appeared previously in the LJF, on that occasion supporting the band of US sax legend Charles Lloyd, a very significant influence on Adam's music. They will have a special guest on their 2012 gig, having met British soul star Omar at the 2011 MOBO Awards ceremony (when they snaffled the award for Best Jazz Act, against stiff competition).

Adam, already receiving massive acclaim for his imaginative compositional skills, has penned a single featuring Omar with Kairos, due for release soon. The band's previous albums Statement of Intent and Kairos Moment have featured guest vocals from Swedish jazz/folk singer Emilia Martensson, many people's favourite new jazz voice on the UK scene.

Kairos are lauded as a band of soloists, and all are leading players in their own right. Jasper is well known for his work with Phronesis and Norwegian sax wizard Marius Neset. Jon Scott has performed with artists including Will Vinson, Byron Wallen, Alec Dankworth, Nikki Iles, Yuri Goloubev and Mike Walker. In addition to his Kairos activities, he's in several other original groups such as the Pete Hurt Quartet, the Hannes Riepler Quartet, Carlos Lopez-Real's Mandorla and Anglo-German collaboration Paragon.
